Is this Anxiety or is it just me? I can’t tell anymore...

For Stress Awareness Month I wanted to highlight the effects of stress and anxiety on our minds and bodies.

Some of us were already stuck in stress mode, before this pandemic, and now the rest of us seem to be there too.

There’s a tidal wave of anxiety and stress washing over the world as Covid recedes, and the effects can be serious.

Anxiety can cause you to feel:

  • irritable, aggressive, impatient or wound up

  • overwhelmed

  • anxious, nervous or afraid

  • like you've lost your sense of humour

  • depressed

  • uninterested in life

  • a sense of dread

  • worried about your health

  • lonely

  • like your thoughts are racing and you can't switch off

  • snappy

These behaviours can be caused by anxiety and stress:

  • eating too much or too little

  • drinking too much

  • biting your nails

  • picking your skin or eyelashes

  • unable to enjoy yourself

  • unable to concentrate

  • being indecisive

  • constantly worrying

  • avoiding situations

  • restless, like you can't sit still

  • being tearful or crying

If you're experiencing these physical symptoms, they are commonly caused by stress:

  • chest pains

  • headaches

  • shallow breathing or hyperventilating

  • tired all the time

  • panic attacks

  • muscle tension

  • constipation or diarrhoea

  • problems getting to sleep, staying asleep or having nightmares

  • grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw

  • sexual problems, such as losing interest in sex or being unable to enjoy sex

  • high blood pressure

  • indigestion or heartburn

  • feeling sick, dizzy or fainting

Sound familiar? Are you struggling with any of these?

You don't need to, because I can help you better manage these symptoms and behaviours.

You can learn to control the way your body responds to stress, you can change the way you feel inside and you can nourish and restore your body.
